BonTerra Consulting Expands Services to include Cultural Resources Management

July 11, 2002

Costa Mesa, CA - BonTerra Consulting has expanded its range of environmental services to include Cultural Resources Management. Heading the new division is Archaeologist Richard Shepard, M.A., RPA, who brings to BonTerra Consulting eight years of professional experience in Cultural Resources Management (CRM) and joins the firm to establish a Cultural Resources Services Division. Mr. Shepard earned his Master of Arts degree from the UCLA Institute of Archaeology and is certified by the Register of Professional Archaeologists (ROPA, formerly SOPA). Because ROPA requires an advanced degree, its members meet federal standards for fieldwork set by the Secretary of the Interior, ensuring that Section 106 and other federal thresholds are met and that cultural resource assessments and evaluations are conducted by qualified professionals.

According to Joan Kelly, Managing Principal of BonTerra Consulting, "Expanding our services to include Cultural Resources Management was a natural transition for BonTerra because it complements our full range of services. Mitigation of land development effects upon cultural resources is a component of nearly all major construction projects in California, and CRM services are continually requested by our clients in both the private and public sectors."

With the added service, BonTerra Consulting now offers a more diverse array of environmental consulting capabilities, and extends its traditional services in the fields of environmental planning, biological and natural resources management, habitat restoration, into cultural resources management. The firm specializes in environmental impact assessments, land use and strategic policy planning, biological services, habitat restoration planning, cultural resources surveys and evaluations, and mitigation monitoring.

BonTerra Consulting, based in Costa Mesa, CA, is certified Woman-Owned Small Business (WBE/DBE). For more information on how BonTerra's creative team can complement your environmental needs, please contact Tom Smith, AICP, at 714.444.9199.
