CEQA/NEPA Assistant Project Managers (Irvine and Pasadena Offices)

BonTerra Consulting is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as an Assistant Project Manager in its Environmental Services division.  Requirements for the Assistant Project Manager Position include a minimum of four years of experience preparing California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation.  An Assistant Project Manager is responsible for researching and preparing sections of various environmental and planning documents. Some project management, marketing, staff management, and subconsultant coordination is also required.  The successful candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; demonstrate good analytic skills; and be able to work effectively in a team environment. A Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Urban Development, or related field is required; a Master’s Degree is preferred.

Requirements for the Project Manager position include a minimum of seven years experience preparing and reviewing California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation, including technical reports, for medium to large projects.  A Project Manager at BonTerra Consulting is responsible for managing the technical and financial tasks associated with environmental documents, subconsultant coordination, and assisting technical staff to grow professionally. A Project Manager is also responsible for assisting with marketing activities. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate exceptional verbal and written communication skills; demonstrate strong problem-solving capabilities; and be able to work effectively in a team environment. A Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Urban Planning, or related field is required; a Master’s Degree is preferred.

The CNPS is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to the appreciation, scientific study, and protection of plants native to California. They are also actively involved in the use of native plants in horticulture and in educating people of all ages about native plants. Many of BonTerra Consulting’s staff members are members of CNPS.

BonTerra Consulting is proud to have been a sponsor of the CNPS Conference held in January 2012. Sponsorship provides funds that assist the CNPS in renting conference space, printing materials, and paying staff time for organizing and working the event.

BonTerra Consulting staff members that attended the conference were Amber Oneal, Allison Rudalevige, Jennifer Pareti, and Robert Allen. They attended events such as a field trip to Mission Trails Park to study rare plants; a workshop to identify difficult species in the genus Cryptantha; presentations about rare plant research, vernal  pools, native pollinators, education programs, field surveys, identification, and conservation; a discussion of the history of botanical research in Southern California; a workshop describing potential changes to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA); a discussion of impacts related to solar development and the Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan (DRECP); and a workshop on various Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plans (MSHCPs).

A highlight of the Conference was presentation of the much-anticipated second edition of The Jepson Manual, Vascular Plants of California, which is the premier source for identification and information about plants in California. BonTerra Consulting’s Senior Biologist Robert Allen wrote the book’s section about Sycamore trees. The book is now for sale from University of California Press.

Congratulations are in order for Joan Patronite Kelly, AICP, BonTerra Consulting’s Managing Principal (pictured left), who will be recognized as a Distinguished Alumna by the University of California Irvine’s (UCI’s) 41^st Annual Lauds and Laurels Award Program. Sponsored by the UCI Alumni Association (UCIAA), “Lauds & Laurels is [the UCIAA’s] opportunity to publicly recognize and thank those people who, through their good works, make such a positive impact on the university,” said Jorge E. Ancona, assistant vice chancellor of alumni relations and UCIAA executive director, in the article about the awards. Joan is one of 19 professionals—including a Superior Court Judge, a Los Angeles Times Columnist, a Broadway actress, and numerous business owners and professors—who will be honored at an event that will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Irvine on May 12, 2011. Joan graduated from UCI in 1977; since then, she has been active in the UCIAA and, for over ten years, has been active in the School of Social Ecology’s Advisory Board for the Planning Policy and Design Master’s Concentration.  Congratulations Joan!
